I am a Nationally Certified Counselor licensed in the State of Missouri and an intensely trained DBT certified Clinician. I've worked with individuals experiencing intense emotions, trauma and/or difficulties with relations, managing their emotions or using unhealthy coping strategies. Many of my past clients have a history of suicide threats and self harm. I've worked with children, adolescents and adults for over 20 years. In addition Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or DBT, I'm trained in and use Motivational Interviewing, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).I have and use a daily mindfulness practice for some 40 years as a base and teach it to all my clients. I believe it to be a useful practice in and of itself.
I am a mother, grandmother and believe in a life balance. Thus I engage in and teach yoga, enjoy dancing, strength training, walking, hiking, reading, self study, gardening, and learning new things as well as alone time for reflection.
I believe each person has a desire to be happy and enjoy life. I believe people do the best they can with the tools they have and if they could do better they would. And I believe they have to learn to do things differently if they want their lives to change for the better. While I structure my sessions using DBT, I use other modalities as needed. My goal is to work with each individual helping them to identify and recognize the values that drive them and guide them. I work with them to make the changes needed to find the joy that makes a life worth living.
